The
National Indoor Arena (NIA) Birmingham Jan & Feb 2001
For
8 weeks a year in January & February, a 200m indoor track is
laid at the NIA in Birmingham. Here a wide variety of competitions
take place
as
diverse as, Inter Schools Matches, the Midlands Counties
Championships, UKA Grand Prix Meeting, Spartrack Half Term Coaching
& the AAA Combined Events Championships.
The
track is banked on the bends & is a really interesting venue.
The steeply banked bends make staggered starts a
challenge, for those not used to starting from blocks, in an outside lane.
Gemma
Weetman in her final event the 800m of the Midlands Counties
Combined Events (Pentathlon) Champs at the NIA in Jan 2001 - on the
third lap Gemma has put real distance between her & nearest rival
still in the bend - at the finish the opposition are nowhere to be
seen. She finished 4th in the U15G's Champs
Robin
Tuerena also in the same Combined Events competition clearing 1m 40cm
goes on to take 5th place
