Oswestry Olympians Newsletter - January 2010Following my decision to focus on coaching and overseeing the Junior Section of the club, I have looked at some of the roles that need volunteers. Many of these responsibilities only require occasional input where others need regular commitment as follows:
1. Team managersCross country U11G, U11B, U13G, U13B, U15/17G, U15/17B
Sportshall U11G, U11B, U13G, U13B, U15G, U15B
Track & Field U11G, U11B, U13G, U13B, U15G, U15B, U17W, U17M
In addition we also need someone to liaise with Bridgnorth AC to help organise teams in the U17/20's National Junior Athletics League2. Responsibility for the spare club vests, taking them to events, collecting them in after use and washing them for the next competition.
3. Managing the sale of club vests to Juniors.
4. Helping out at training sessions in the Sportshall and at the track. After the summer we will no longer have the services of Arnie Wray at indoor sessions and Natalie will be at University so we will need additional volunteers to organise, set up, and supervise training.
5. Volunteering to officiate at competitions - the club will be involved in 8 competitions in Shropshire and the West Midlands and we are required to provide a quota of officials at each. We have some qualified members but need more helpers to assist please.
6. Training to be coaches - we currently have only two coaches who are qualified to run sessions and four assistant coaches, and we rely heavily on Arnie to train the older athletes. If you are interested in coaching please consider undertaking a course and gain a qualification.
7. Refreshments - we serve refreshments twice a year, once at the cross country meeting at Oswestry School in October, and also at the track and field competition at Shrewsbury track in June.
I hope to arrange a meeting in February to clarify volunteers' roles and to ensure that we have enough helpers to enable us to continue competing as a club.
Please support your children and Oswestry Olympians.
Thank You,
