Shropshire
Sportshall League Final 2002
The
Olympians Decade
Arnie Wray drove back from a Coaching session in Stoke with three of the older junior members in time to see Olympians take the overall Sportshall League Trophy for an amazing 10th year in succession. Arnie has now lead Olympians to overall victory from 1993 to 2002 in an unbroken story of success. On the day Olympians took no less than 6 of the 9 trophies on offer in the Shropshire Sportshall League.

Not
only did Olympians take the Overall Trophy, but their combined
success in all age groups lead them to take the Overall Boys &
Overall Girls Trophies as well. Under 11 Girls battled hard narrowly
clinching their trophy from a strongly chasing Telford. Meanwhile the
Under 15 Girls & Under 15 Boys took maximum points at every
meeting, for a run away success in their age groups.
Post
Script - Arnie also attained another milestone on the day, of which
he is exceedingly proud. At the end of each league season each club
enters a team in a seniors relay race, & Arnie competes
ignominiously every year. But for the very first time this year he
was part of the winning team!!!
P.P.S.
- That was 2002 & now in 2004
we have done it again & made it 12
years.
This
is where it all started - Do you recognise any of the stars of yesteryear

Full
results will be posted as soon as they are available
Twelve
young Oswestry Olympians were among the Shropshire team who recently
competed in the West Midlands Sports Hall finals at Hereford on 2nd
Feb 2002 against Gloucester, Worcerster, Warwickshire &
Birmingham. Several athletes enjoyed individual success with Gemma
Weetman putting in an outstanding performance in her first year in
the Under 15 age group. She took four silver medals in the
Standing long jump, Four laps, Speed bounce and runners up spot in
the all-rounder competition. Team mate Jenny Corbett also performed
brilliantly to win two silver medals in the Two laps and Standing
long jump. In the Under 13 age group it was Cherida Lauriello
jumped well to claim a silver medal in the Standing long jump, with
Charlotte Roberts third in the Six lap race. The boys were also in
the medals, Chris Ellis took Gold in the 6 Lap race & Ashley
Martin Bronze in the High Jump
The
Under 15 girls, Under 15 boys & Under 13 Girls were all third
overall but the Under 13 boys put in a great performance to finish 4
points ahead of Birmingham to win their age group & book
themselves a place in the National Finals at the NIA in Birmingham on
March 24th.
