Oswestry Olympians Juniors has a regular membership of around 100 young athletes ranging in age from 9 to 18 and draws young people from Oswestry and the surrounding area of North Shropshire and over the Welsh border.
We have coaches who cover most athletic disciplines and our training sessions are generally divided by age into "Under 11", "Under 13" and "Under 15" who are 13 and over. Our summer training venue moved in 2006 from Park Hall Stadium to Marches School where there are plans to install an all weather long jump runway.
Through the winter we train predominantly indoors in the Marches School sportshall :- Circuit training, Weight training, Plyometrics and Sports Hall athletics activities. We also run an outdoor Saturday morning session of cross-country, hill running, sprints etc. There are also a number of swimming sessions at Rhyn Park open to all members but also for Triathletes.

The junior club became the most successful of the Shropshire clubs in the new millennium. During the year 2000 we won; the Shropshire Track and Field league, dominated the Cross-country league winning the overall Bristow trophy, as well as the overall boys and the overall girls trophies & the half of the team trophies, & also the Sports hall league which was our eighth successive win. Since then we have extended our Sportshall winning streak to more than a decade. We have also had club representatives at the English Schools track and field finals for the past thirteen years including six medalists. A number of our club athletes have achieved international status, having turned out for Wales, N. Ireland, Scotland, England and Great Britain. However, the club prides itself more on the happy family atmosphere which exists and the fact that athletes of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged. We also have a very supportive group of parents which is the envy of other local clubs.
We compete in the Shropshire Young Athletes Leagues for Cross Country, Sports Hall and Track & Field, as well as the summer UKA National-YAL & for Under 20s the National Junior League.
New recruits in School Year 4 are welcomed after Easter each year, and older athletes, year 5 & above, are welcome at any time.
Even the most successful junior athletics club in Shropshire always needs coaches & we are always extremely anxious to recruit more coaches. Oswestry Olympians Juniors is run for children almost exclusively by parents. As parents of older athletes reduce their involvement, we need those of younger members to assist. A willingness to help is far more important than experience. So if there are any Parents, Older Brothers & Sisters, friends, teachers or ex members who would be interested in getting involved, as Coaches &/or Technical Officials, please contact our senior coach Arnie Wray (656961).
